Our Recommendation
We recommend this mattress for the following sleeper types:
Kids
This bed is perfect for young sleepers.
Pros
Good cooling – If your child often complains about feeling too hot at night, you’ll love that this mattress does a good job of keeping cool.
Fiberglass-free design – If you’re on the hunt for a mattress that contains no fiberglass, this bed features a fiberglass-free build.
Excellent support – Kids need good support for healthy spine alignment while they sleep, and this bed exceled in our support testing.
Cons
Basic design – Overall, this bed should work well for most kids, but there aren’t many extra bells and whistles to its design.
Possibly too firm for some – If your child is a fan of softer mattresses, this Brooklyn Bedding may feel too firm for their preferences.
Not flippable – Other kids mattresses we’ve seen feature dual-sided designs with two firmness options, but this bed only has one firmness..

How the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress Compares
Here at Sleep Advisor, we’ve tested over 150 different mattresses. As you can see in the table below, the BB Kids mattress scores better at support, cooling, and motion isolation. It also comes at a lower price than the average twin-size mattress.

Who We Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress For:
- Kids and Teens – This mattress comes in three sizes, so it’s a perfect match for kids in need of their first mattress, and larger sizes should work for older kids and teens.
- Back sleepers – Given its firmer feel, we think this Brooklyn Bedding mattress is a great option for back sleepers.
- Hot sleepers – This bed has high-density cooling foam with open cell technology to provide airflow for those who sleep hot.
Who We Don’t Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress For:
- Side sleepers – We think this bed is going to be too firm for side sleepers since there’s not much sinkage. Even though it’s an all-foam bed, its foams are firm and likely to create pressure buildup.
- Those after a softer bed – If your child enjoys a softer bed that hugs their body, you might want to look elsewhere. This mattress is excellent at support but might not be cozy enough for sleepers who prefer a soft mattress.
Customer Reviews of the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress
The Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress scores 4.3 out of 5 stars based on over 80 reviews on the company’s official website. Most people love how comfortable it is, praising its toxic-free construction. On the other hand, some have said it’s too firm for their children.
Testing the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
When we test mattresses, we focus on performance aspects such as pressure relief, support, motion isolation, bounce, and edge support. We use multiple methods and tools, such as a temperature gun for cooling, a seismograph app for motion isolation, and a pressure map for pressure relief.
We combine these data tests with subjective testing experiences to get the most comprehensive review possible. These test results are what help us rate the mattress in each category and together, these scores go into our overall score.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7.5
At Sleep Advisor, we score mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. Our testers rated the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress a 7.5 out of 10, which is pretty firm for a kids’ mattress.
How Does the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress Feel?
The Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress feels firm, with no slow-sinking foams that could otherwise provide some more cushioning around the hips, knees, and shoulders. It’s rigid, so don’t expect any body contouring.
How the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress Performs for Different Sleep Positions
This Brooklyn Bedding mattress doesn’t have a set weight limit, but keep in mind it’s a kids’ mattress and not meant for adults—at least not for adults to use for a prolonged period.
Side Sleepers | According to our testers, this kids’ mattress is way too firm for side sleepers. There’s practically no sinkage, which could result in pressure buildup in this position. |
Back Sleepers | If your child is mainly a back sleeper who enjoys a firm mattress, they should be happy with how the Brooklyn Bedding mattress feels. Its firmness provides good support for the back, preventing the hips from dipping. |
Stomach Sleepers | This bed’s firmness should work great for stomach sleepers, but, according to our testers, some might find it too firm around the chest. |
The bed’s noticeably firmer feel led us to believe pressure buildup might be a problem on this mattress, specifically for any kids who are regular side sleepers, which is why it scored so low. That said, kids who are stomach sleepers and some back sleepers may still be okay on this firmer bed.
Learn More: Best Mattresses for Pressure Relief
While pressure relief might not be its strong point, support is where this Brooklyn Bedding mattress shines. With its firm foams that provide a no-sink feel, this mattress excels at keeping your body lifted. This means a healthy sleep posture throughout the night.
Motion isolation is typically important if your kids will share a bed or if they sleep with pets that get in and out throughout the night. Motion isolation also helps when you read bedtime stories and try to sneak out of bed after your child falls asleep.
If it’s what you’re looking for, you’ve found it. Our testers could barely feel any movement with another person got in and and out of the bed, and when we used a seismograph app to measure this, it backed up our testers’ personal experience.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4.5/5
Cooling is helpful for kids who sleep hot, especially if you live in a warm climate. However, not all mattresses are meant for hot sleepers. This Brooklyn Bedding model has an open-cell design in its cooling foam, allowing the air to circulate more to help prevent heat retention. This seems to do the trick considering the temperature only went up 5 degrees after five minutes of lying on the bed. We deducted half a point, however, since there weren’t other, more advanced cooling features within the mattress.
Bounce can help people get in and out of bed and switch positions. Plus, many kids enjoy this feature. We test this by dropping a weighted ball on the bed and seeing just how much it bounces, as well as how easily we can move around on the mattress.
In the case of this Brooklyn Bedding mattress, there was not much bounce. When we dropped the ball on it, it just made a big thud. However, the mattress is still easy to move around on, which means switching positions shouldn’t be a problem. Considering there’s not a lot of buoyancy, but changing position is still fine, we gave it an average score of 3 out of 5 here.
Edge support can be especially important on a kids’ bed because these mattresses are generally smaller. This means less surface space, so your child is more likely to sleep closer to the edge.
The edges of the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress didn’t sink when our testers sat or lay down along the sides. This is good news because it means your child shouldn’t feel like they may fall off in the middle of the night.
In this category, we look at how the mattress stands out in general, including in its design and policies. This mattress is specifically designed for kids, and we would say that, overall, it’s a well-made bed that should last long enough until your child outgrows it. Its firmer feel definitely supports good spinal alignment for healthy growth, but it’s still a bit limiting since it could be too firm for side sleepers.
Brooklyn Bedding’s trial and warranty policies also meet the industry standard, which we like to see. However, we took off a point because this mattress isn’t flippable, and that’s a unique feature we’ve seen in other kids mattresses we’ve reviewed. Flippable beds usually have a different firmness on each side, which would give kids some more variety.
Brooklyn Bedding is easy to work with, so you shouldn’t have any issues if you decide to return the mattress. You can reach the company via email or online chat, though the latter is a little more complicated since you’ll be talking with a chatbot, which doesn’t really understand questions that well. There’s also a $99 return fee, which is mostly why we took off a point here.
Preference-Based Features
Stain Protection
This mattress has innovative technology sewn right into the cover, protecting against spills and accidents. This is perfect for all kids, but especially the youngest ones who are still potty training.
Hypoallergenic
Who doesn’t want the best for their kids, even when they sleep? This Brooklyn Bedding model has certified foams and safe materials, so your child sleeps on a hypoallergenic surface that’s safe for them.
Made in the USA
Brooklyn Bedding makes all their beds in the United States, using both domestic and foreign components.
Construction: What’s Inside the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress?
The Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress is 6 inches tall, which might seem very thin, but it should be enough for kids. It comes in three sizes, depending on the age of your child.
The construction starts off with the Nano Stain Terminator Cover, which is eco-friendly and meant to stop spills and accidents from staining the mattress.
- The comfort layer is made from a 2-inch gel swirl memory foam that gives this mattress that bit of responsiveness for easier repositioning. It also offers some temperature regulation to help prevent the surface from getting too warm.
- The support layer is a 4-inch thick firm foam that is highly dense, so it shouldn’t develop any dents, even after a while.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The company ships their mattresses in a box, so you need to wait a few hours before being able to use your new bed. Unboxing is easy, although the box can be a little too heavy for some, which is why we always recommend you get a helping hand.
Another thing to keep in mind is that this is an all-foam mattress, and some off-gassing might occur. However, this is normal for bed-in-a-box mattresses, so just give it a day or two, and any new mattress odors should dissipate by then.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® – This certification means the foam meets certain criteria for content, durability, and emissions.
- GREENGUARD Gold – This certification guarantees the product is low-emitting and contributes to cleaner indoor air. The mattress has been screened for over 15,000 VOCs that pollute indoor air.

Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress FAQs
In this aspect, kids are much like adults in that there is no one-size-fits-all bed. Some kids like firm mattresses, while others prefer a more cozy bed that’s softer. Either way, the best type of mattress for kids is the one that provides enough support to keep their bodies in a healthy sleep posture and lets them get a good night’s rest.
Again, this is hard to tell because kids have different preferences. In general, most children prefer sleeping on firmer beds because they provide more support, but some sinkage might also help if your kid is a side sleeper. In short, anywhere from medium-firm to firm should do the job.
No, Brooklyn Bedding mattresses don’t have fiberglass.
Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are made in the United States, but it’s worth noting that the company uses domestic and foreign components.

Our Verdict of the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress
We think this could be a good mattress to get for your child, especially since it comes in three sizes, so they can use it for a while if you get a larger size. It provides excellent support, which is one of the most important things, as it ensures proper alignment for your kid’s growing body. We also found it did well at cooling and motion isolation, which can be helpful for those times when your child shares a bed with a pet or sibling.
On the flip side, this mattress doesn’t do that well with pressure relief, so we wouldn’t recommend it to kids who are regular side sleepers. Overall, the Brooklyn Bedding Kids Mattress earned a 4 out of 5.
