As someone who spends a lot of time with mattresses, I’ll admit that I made a rookie mistake before I tested Nectar’s updated Luxe Memory Foam mattresses. Given that I had already tested the updated Classic and Premier models, I assumed I knew what was in store with the Luxe. However, you know what can happen when you assume.
This mattress is softer than the updated Classic and Premier models, and I assumed the plushness wouldn’t work for stomach sleepers, but color me mistaken. I loved this bed when I was on my stomach.
So, were my other assumptions about this bed’s lack of bounce and how it would be a great fit for lightweight sleepers correct? Read on to find out.

Pros
Excellent cooling – The breathable cover and cooling fibers helped the Nectar Luxe score big in temperature regulation.
Spinal support – For a softer bed, the Luxe provides incredible support. It provided contouring, support, and spinal alignment when I was on my stomach and back.
Cons
Lack of bounce – With close to zero bounce, this mattress won’t be a good fit for sexually active couples and those with mobility issues.
Poor edge support – The edges compressed down when I sat on the bed, making it hard to get up.
Nectar Luxe Mattress Performance Ratings
How the Nectar Luxe Compares
Here at Sleep Advisor, we’ve tested over 150 different mattresses. The Nectar Luxe has a luxurious height that is about 3 inches taller than the average mattress. It also has an industry-leading year-long sleep trial and performs better than other beds in motion isolation and cooling.
Test | Nectar Luxe | Average |

Who I Recommend The Nectar Luxe For:
- Hot sleepers – Nectar has added cooling fibers to this model, and it performed very well in my cooling test. If you’re a hot sleeper, this is an excellent memory foam mattress for you.
- People who want a cozy mattress feel – The plush upper layers provide deep contouring, allowing sleepers to be wrapped in a warm hug.
- Average-weight stomach sleepers – This is a hot take given the Nectar Luxe’s softer feel. However, as a part-time stomach sleeper, I was a big fan of how well this bed elevated my hips and kept my spine aligned.
Who I Don’t Recommend The Nectar Luxe For:
- Those who like to work or watch TV in bed – I sank deep into the mattress when I was sitting on it working on my laptop. It caused a lot of pressure around my hips, and although I was sitting straight against the headboard, my spinal alignment felt compromised.
- Firm mattress fans – The upper layers give this bed a contouring, soft feel. If you’re looking for a firmer bed, the Nectar Luxe is probably not for you.
Customer Reviews of the Nectar Luxe Mattress
The Nectar Luxe Memory Foam mattress has more than 2,500 reviews, and it has garnered 4.4 out of 5 stars on Nectar’s website. Verified buyer, Sharron H., stated that it was the best mattress they ever owned and that it was great for lower back or hip pain. However, others complained that it was too soft and quickly began to sag.
Testing the Nectar Luxe
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
Mattress reviews can’t happen without thorough testing. At Sleep Advisor, we take a two-fold approach to this process by combining hands-on evaluations with quantitative data we gather from equipment such as a pressure map, a temperature gun, and a seismograph app. I also dropped a 10-pound medicine ball and jumped on this bed to measure its bounce.
Considering the feel of a mattress can change depending on your sleep position, I spent time on my back, stomach, and side to see how supportive it felt. Lying on the mattress also gave me a deeper understanding of its pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, and edge support capabilities.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 5.5/10
The Nectar Luxe is a soft bed that allows you to sink down into its embrace. I rated it a 5.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is softer than the average bed. The bed’s top layers are cloud-like, while the more dense bottom layers provide support and keep you from sinking too far into the mattress.
How Does the Nectar Luxe Feel?
I first noticed the Nectar Luxe’s cool-to-the-touch cover. Once I settled in, the bed reminded me of marshmallows on top of graham crackers because the top layers squished down pretty far before the sturdier base kicked in and prevented me from sinking all the way down.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to the Nectar customer service representative, all queen-sized Nectar mattresses can accommodate up to 1,000 pounds.
Side Sleepers
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | Lightweight side sleepers will likely be smitten with the Luxe’s soft upper layers, which provide ample pressure relief. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | This was, for lack of a better word, weird for me. I didn’t hate this position, but it felt like my shoulder was rapidly burrowing down into this mattress. However, my ribs and hip felt nicely contoured. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | A plus-sized colleague said he liked the pressure relief the Nectar Luxe provided for some heavyweight side sleepers as he felt almost no pressure on his hips and shoulders. He advised that if you weigh over 300 pounds, you’ll probably want to find something else. |
Back Sleepers
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | Lightweight back sleepers should dig how the foam wraps them up and keeps their spine aligned when sleeping on their backs. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I loved how the soft memory foam layers contoured around my spine and the denser layer aligned my spine. It gave me a sense of comfort and security. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | The Nectar Luxe wasn’t quite supportive enough for my 6’7, 270-pound co-worker. Heavier folks who sleep on their back will likely find a firmer bed more beneficial. |
Stomach Sleepers
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | Lightweight stomach sleepers should appreciate how the soft foam relieves pressure while the supportive, denser phone keeps them elevated. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | Admittedly, I was flabbergasted by how much I liked this on my stomach. Softer beds usually don’t support my hips enough. However, there was no dip around my midsection, and I enjoyed the softness on my chest. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Although the Nectar Luxe shocked me with how much I liked it on my stomach, the heavyweight tester confirmed that it was not supportive enough for him. |
I thoroughly enjoyed how the soft layers encased my back and relieved the pressure and tension that I was carrying. Although I sank a little, I never felt that my spinal alignment was compromised, and I was caught completely off guard by how much pressure relief and comfort the Nectar Luxe offered when I was on my stomach. Conversely, I felt a lot more build-up than anticipated around my shoulder when I was on my side.
The pressure map results showcase why we use quantitative and subjective testing methods. If we had used only the data from the equipment reading, the Nectar Luxe would have easily received a perfect score. The pictures of me on my back and side showed only blue and green, indicating little to no pressure build-up. However, I felt noticeable pressure around my shoulder, so I deducted one point in this category.
Learn More: Best Mattresses for Pressure Relief
Is the Nectar Luxe Good for Pain Relief?
The soft, contouring layers of the Nectar Luxe should ease back pain for lightweight and average-weight sleepers and may be good for those who experience hip pain. However, I don’t recommend this mattress for shoulder pain.
Back Pain | The Nectar Luxe should be a solid choice for lightweight and average-weight sleepers who experience back pain. However, the softer layers will likely allow heavier folks to fall through them too quickly, which could result in pressure build-up or awkward spinal alignment. Read more about mattresses for back pain here. |
Hip Pain | I loved how this mattress embraced my hips and helped ease my lingering pain from a nagging hip injury. The softness likely makes it a prime candidate for hip pain relief for lightweight folks, and my plus-sized colleague said he experienced pressure relief around his hip on this bed. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here. |
Shoulder Pain | When I lay on my side on this bed, my shoulders felt like I was actively bearing down on them. Overall, I found it off-putting and thought that this bed would increase my shoulder pain. Since the heavyweight tester stated that he felt pressure around his shoulder, I wouldn’t recommend it for that weight group, but I think lightweight folks could experience some shoulder pain relief. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here. |
For a softer, all-foam bed, the Nectar Luxe offers its fair share of support. The Luxe’s 8-inch all-foam base layer is the support MVP. After sinking through 6 inches of softer foam, this dense, stable conventional foam pushes you back toward the top.
This bed felt wonderful when I was on my back and stomach. I loved how the softer layers seemed to become one with my back and my hips, drawing tension away from those areas, but the hearty layer kept my spinal alignment from being compromised. However, I deducted a point because I wanted to see more support when I was on my side. My shoulder felt like it drove down into the mattress.
When my husband goes to sleep, he turns into a hooked marlin desperate to free himself. The aggressive flipping and flopping have driven me from our bed more than once, and that is why a bed’s ability to isolate motion is important to me. I first gauged the Nectar Luxe’s motion isolation by using a seismograph app. It showed only small movements after I rolled around on the bed.
Corey and I then simulated a couple going to bed at night. After I was lying down on the Luxe, Corey got into bed. He then sat up and moved around before pushing himself up as one would when getting out of bed. Despite the calm seismograph reading, we both felt the Nectar Luxe had some noticeable motion transfer, especially compared to the Classic and Premier models. This is likely due to the thicker softer layers at the top of the Luxe. It wouldn’t make this bed a dealbreaker for my marlin and me, but I did take away a point from the score because of the transfer Corey and I noticed.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4.5/5
If you associate memory foam mattresses with night sweats, the Nectar Luxe is here to forge a new, cooler path. The manufacturer states that this bed contains twice as many cooling fibers as its base model, the Nectar Classic. As much as I want to take a company at its word, I’m still going to test out these bold claims.
Before I got on the bed, I took an initial surface temperature that showed the mattress was 68.4 degrees. I then settled in for five minutes of lounging before I took the bed’s temperature again. After I had been on it for five minutes, the temperature increased to 76.6 degrees, but after another five-minute round, the Luxe had cooled down to 75.7.
Considering that the cover remained cool to the touch the whole time I was on it, I was impressed with this bed’s ability to regulate temperature. I subtracted half a point because the bed got more than five degrees warmer over the course of testing.
The bounce of the Nectar Luxe was more of a whimper than a bang. This wasn’t all that surprising, given that the upper portion of this bed is made of 6 inches of soft foam. After testing this mattress’s bounce capabilities, the Luxe is likely not the best choice for you if you are a dedicated combination sleeper, sexually active, or have mobility issues.
When I dropped the 10-pound medicine ball onto the mattress, it landed with a thud and barely moved. I didn’t have much hope that jumping on the bed would provide different results from the medicine ball, but when you get to jump on a bed as part of your job, you do it. I felt like I was jumping in several inches of thick mud. I fared a little better when changing positions than jumping, but I still felt as if I had to fight my way up before turning over. Given the minimal bounce and difficulty moving about, I gave this mattress a 2.5 for its bounce performance.
If you like to sleep dangerously by scooting as close to the edge as possible, you’ll want a mattress that securely supports you along its perimeter. Solid edge support is beneficial for couples as it allows them to use the entire surface area of the bed, and folks with mobility issues should be able to get in and out of bed more easily if they don’t sink too far into the mattress.
One way I tested the Nectar Luxe’s edge support was by sitting upright for a minute. The amount of sinkage that occurred made me concerned for those with mobility issues, especially those who weigh more than 230 pounds. I then bent over as if I was tying my shoes for a minute. The sinking wasn’t as pronounced because I shifted some of my weight forward, but the cover was fairly slick and didn’t give me a keen sense of security.
I felt more secure when I was lying near the edge, but it was somewhat precarious when I got out of bed from a prone position. The Nectar Luxe earned a 3.5 out of 5 for edge support due to the sinkage and instability.
Mattresses are a big commitment, and to make their beds stand out in a crowded marketplace, manufacturers try to set themselves apart by the extras they offer. Nectar’s policies, which include a year-long sleep trial, Forever warranty, and free shipping and returns, are some of the best available. If you prefer to leave your mattress setup to the professionals, Nectar also offers white glove delivery for an additional charge.
I took off half a point because the Nectar Luxe doesn’t include handles, which I found odd since the Premier does. I deducted another half-point because it comes with a removable cover, which may lead some to believe that it is machine washable, but it is not. Nectar advises against removing it because doing so can void the warranty.
Nectar representatives can help by phone, email, or online chat. I found that the company is responsive, knowledgeable, and friendly on all of its communication channels. When I posed a question that the online chat rep couldn’t answer, they had someone follow up via email. The reply was quick and detailed. However, I deducted a point because the lengthy response failed to answer my question directly.
Performance for Couples
3.5/5
For a harmonious nighttime union, couples need an agreeable mattress. These are typically ones with a medium firmness, great motion isolation, top-notch edge support, and substantial cooling. Sexually active couples will also benefit from a bed with good bounce.
The Nectar Luxe has excellent cooling and good motion isolation. However, it is soft and lacks edge support and bounce. With a score of 3.5 out of 5, I think most co-sleepers will appreciate one of our top beds for couples more.
Preference-Based Features
White Glove Delivery
For an additional $199, your mattress and one other item (such as a base) can be delivered and professionally installed. Additional items cost $49 each, and they can also haul away your old mattress.

Adjustable Base Compatible

It offers a host of creature comforts such as a wireless remote, USB ports for charging your electronics, massaging features, and a recline setting for when you’re watching TV in bed.
Construction: What’s Inside the Nectar Luxe Mattress?
The Nectar Luxe is 14 inches tall and is covered with a breathable, moisture-wicking fabric that has received an antimicrobial treatment. This cover helps keep you cool and dry, and it fights bacteria.
- Using 3 inches of therapeutic memory foam, the Luxe’s first layer provides support, responsiveness, and pressure relief.
- The second layer is made up of 3 inches of dynamic support foam that promotes responsiveness and spinal alignment.
- The Nectar Luxe’s fourth layer is 8 inches of sturdy conventional foam, which stabilizes the bed and prevents motion transfer.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Nectar compresses and rolls their mattress into a box to ship it to you. The easiest way to unbox your mattress is by placing it on your foundation and carefully removing the box and plastic wrapping.
When you have completed this, your mattress will begin to inflate. It could take a few hours for it to reach its full size. During this time, you may notice a slight chemical smell known as off-gassing. You can give your mattress a day or two for the smell to dissipate. Placing your mattress in a well-ventilated room can help this process along.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Nectar Luxe Mattress FAQs
Sleep Advisor’s Senior Editor, Jill Zwarnsteyn, has slept on a Nectar for three years, and she hasn’t noticed any sagging. However, some of the negative reviews of the Nectar Luxe stated that the mattress quickly began to sag.
Nectar mattresses could be good for bad backs. The contouring foams found in the upper layers of the all-foam mattresses do a good job of filling in around your lower back while the firmer base layer keeps your spine aligned. However, it’s important to note that this may not be the case for everyone, which is why it’s important to pick something that works for your body type and sleep position and take advantage of those trial periods.
The Nectar Luxe is a little softer than a medium-firm mattress. We rated it a 5.5 out of 10, and true medium-firm mattresses are typically rated around a 6 or 6.5 on our firmness scale. The Luxe has 6 inches of contouring memory foam at the top, which lends to the plush feel.
How well a mattress performs for side sleepers is largely dependent on the mattress’s firmness and the person’s bodyweight. The Nectar Luxe would not be my pick for average-side sleepers like me because I pushed through the layers too aggressively. However, it may be a good fit for lightweight side sleepers. The best mattresses for side sleeping tend to contour the shoulders and hips and keep the spine aligned.

My Verdict of the Nectar Luxe
I was a big fan of the updated Nectar Classic and Premier memory foam mattresses. So, I was excited about testing the top-tier model in that line-up. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown.
That’s not to say that the Luxe didn’t have positive attributes. It offers excellent cooling, sound motion isolation, and top notch support when lying on my back and stomach. I loved how it eased pressure around my lower back and was pleasantly surprised with how well it elevated and hugged my hips. However, that plushness also allows for too much sinking when you’re on your side, and there is basically no bounce. If you like a softer bed with deep contouring, this could make a great bed for you. Otherwise, I’d tell you to stick with the more affordable Classic or Premier. Overall, the Nectar Luxe was a mixed bag, and it earned a 3.9 out of 5.
