How to know what is a good mattress for you?
Is mine bad?
Before you can find a mattress that is right for you, you have to be able to detect if a mattress is not good for you. You have to be able to read the signs that your body is giving so that you can tell if your mattress is giving your the most restful and relaxing sleep you can get.
In general, if you wake up and you need to stretch to get rid of back pain, or you have stiffness that lasts for 15-30 minutes after waking up, you may not have a mattress that is doing when it needs to do. It is not supporting you properly, and you are suffering from it.
You should feel no pressure when you sleep on the right mattress. The proper mattress with has you feeling like you are floating on air. You should feel like you sink in just enough to relieve all the pressures of your body and when you get up you should feel relaxed, refreshed and not at all sore or in pain.
When shopping for a mattress, you should bring your pillow and anything else that you normally have when you sleep. To properly test if a mattress is appropriate for you, you should lay on it in the position that you sleep for at least ten minutes, fifteen if you can manage. If you can rest on the bed for this long, you will get a good sense of the pressure that the bed relieves and if the bed will make you sore in the morning.
But if you mattress at home is leaving you sore and stiff, it is the time that you look for a new mattress that suits you better. There are a number of features that you may find important to note on potential mattresses.
Firmness
One of the most important features in a mattress is its ability to support your body in a neutral position. When you are supported in a neutral position you have a nice natural curvature of your spine and your whole body is in proper alignment.
The firmness of a mattress is important. If your mattress is too firm, it can press on pressure points, and that will put you out of alignment. On the other side of the coin, if your mattress is too soft, those same points will not be supported well enough, and your body will fall out alignment. Mattresses that are too soft, as well as those that are too firm will leave you uncomfortable, and your mornings will be filled with aches and pain.
So there is a range of firmness that is acceptable for your back health. On that range, it has been found that in general the firmer end of this scale is better for lower back pain. Researchers have even found that people sleep on a medium to firm mattresses reported significantly less back pain than those that have slept on softer mattresses.
Innerspring
Innerspring mattresses are the most common kinds of mattresses. They support the sleeper with a number of springs that are encased in the mattress under plenty of padding.
Innerspring mattresses come in many levels of firmness and with different kinds of pillow tops. They are so widespread and easy to get that they can be found pretty cheaply in the mattress world. There is an innerspring mattress that can find almost any budget.
These kinds of mattresses are often good for people that need a firmer mattress and have back pain.
Memory Foam
Memory foam mattresses are great for people that are back sleepers during the night. They are made from different levels of foam that are designed to fit your form and keep you comfortable throughout the night.
Memory foam is good at relieving soreness and pain because it can adapt to the pressure points of your body. If you also have more than one person in the bed, a foam bed also absorbs the movement so you won’t disturb one another when moving.
Some people don’t like how memory foam retains heat. Throughout the night, the foam takes in your body heat and softens. This makes you feel warmer than other mattresses. The heat can be uncomfortable for some.
Latex
Latex mattresses are a bouncy style mattress made from rubber. These mattresses are often quite firm in comparison to other kinds of mattresses.Latex beds are quite firm and supportive. They mold to the body’s form, but unlike foam, the latex pushes back against the pressure for more support.
You can place a topper on a latex mattress, but if you are not a fan of firm mattresses, you may not like the latex style of mattresses.
Comfort For Restful Sleep
If your bed is leaving you sore or in pain in the morning, it is time to exchange your mattress for a new one.
